| A candle holder is designed to hold and steady a candle while the candle burns, or simply for decoration. A candle holder comes in many different forms. A decorative candle holder which holds one candle is called a candlestick. A candelabrum is a candle holder which holds more than one candle. A chandelier used to refer to a candle holder, but not a hanging fixture which functions as a candle holder is called a candelier. A candle holder uses a friction-tight socket to keep a candle steady and straight. A candle can be reshaped or padded if it is too big or small for its candle holder. A significant candle holder is the menorah used for Hanukkah. A menorah candle holder has a place for seven candles which are lit one at a time for each night of Hanukkah. The menorah candle holder has significant symbolism in Judaism. Another significant candle holder is the kinara for Kwanzaa. This candle holder has a place for seven candles, three red candles, thre green candles, and one black candle. The candle holder and the candles represent the seven principles of Kwanzaa. |
